The State of Colorado has just passed Amendment 64 legalizing the recreational use of Marijuana as well as legally allowing users to grow their own cannabis plants in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Amendment 64 is the largest, most serious bill that has ever been passed not only in Colorado but the entire United States. Colorado Amendment 64 will allow Colorado residents to posses, cultivate and consume marijuana just like they would tobacco. There are pros and cons to Amendment 64, bottom line is this will help pave the road for the rest of America to follow in Colorado’s political path to Freedom.
What is Colorado Amendment 64
Colorado Amendment 64 makes marijuana legal. Article 18 of the Colorado state constitution to adopt a progressive marijuana drug policy. Section 3 would allow the “personal use and regulation of marijuana” for adults 21 and over. Section 4 addresses legal commercial cultivation, manufacture, and sale. The intent is that marijuana be regulated in a manner similar to alcohol. Proposed initiative 2011-2012 #30 was submitted on January 4 and found sufficient by the Secretary of State on February 27 to appear on the general ballot for November 6, 2012. As of November 6, the measure appears to have passed. The largest survey for the amendment, conducted October 23rd, indicated that “Colorado’s amendment to legalize marijuana continues to lead for passage with 53% of voters saying they plan to support it to 43% who are opposed.” One line of argument offered by the organization Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol suggests that regulation, in fact, reduces teens’ use of marijuana because the access would be limited to persons 21 and older, provides an alternative to teens’ use of more dangerous drugs, and makes the sale and purchase of marijuana safe. Regulation would, moreover, both reduce the costs of current enforcement policies and provide economic benefits such as providing “$24 million annually in state revenue for the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) capital construction program” and creating new jobs.
Amendment 64 Legalizes Marijuana in Colorado
Now that marijuana cultivation, use and sales are legal in the state of Colorado this means a whole new set of rules, regulations and laws will be created to control and regulate marijuana. This will also create a lot of tax dollar revenue for Colorado residents. Amendment 64 will also create new jobs including but not limited to : cultivation / growers, medical marijuana chefs (make edibles), dispensaries or marijuana pharmacies, quality testing laboratories, trimmers / laborers etc.. Colorado will also drive in a whole bunch of new residents, approximately 10,000 people are expected to move to Colorado in the next 6 months. This will create a boom in the economy and in the real estate market. Along with lowering the amount of criminal arrests that would be saved by this marijuana law and the amount of boom in economy and tax revenue, Colorado has created a gold rush consisting of cannabis. Investors have a chance to make a large amount of money in the boom from marijuana sales in Colorado.
