Job Description

The mission of the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become leaders of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation.
The Center for Character and Leadership Development (CCLD) plays a foundational role in the USAFA mission by developing, administering, and assessing programs designed to promote leadership and character scholarship.
Aleut Aerospace Engineering is a certified 8(a) Alaska Native Corporation that manages the Advisory and Assistance Services Contract at USAFA to provide professional technical support for a wide variety of activities. Aleut’s mission mirrors that of USAFA, with an integrity-centric team focused on delivery of exceptional solutions, service, and value.
Aleut Aerospace Engineering is currently searching for a Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning Instructor to support the CCLD team on site at USAFA. This position supports development and implementation of various training curricula in support of CCLD.

Required Skills

Duties will include, but are not limited to: Collaborate on the design of Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning courses Support design and development of the new USAFA Ropes Course facility Create and produce the Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning course lesson plans and assessments (i.e. documents that include learning outcomes, and samples of behavior) Propose changes to Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning activities and associated elements/structures Assist in review and revise Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning Operating Instructions to current standards Assist in review and revise the Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning Instructor Handbook (educational reference book for in-field use by facilitators/instructors) Lead pre-event practices, walkthroughs, and logistical rehearsals to ensure safe, successful, and effective Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning course execution Provide on-site Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning assistance to include hands-on execution and advice, site scheduling, and emergency response actions Assist with and execute general maintenance and upkeep of ropes course elements and equipment in accordance with experience and manufacturer recommendations. Meet with mission element (ME) representatives, and observe ME practices to find opportunities to use Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning experiences to support mission objectives Collaborate with CCLD on incorporating Ropes/Experiential/Adventure-based Learning activities into current and future curriculum programming Collaborate with Cadet Wing Training to incorporate experiential learning activities (including scheduling and logistics planning for portable activities and ropes course usage) into the Summer training program curriculum Contribute to the development and review of CCLD journal articles Required Experience

Required Experience
Background in outdoor education or adventure/experiential-based learning Minimum 2 years of experience in Ropes course facilitation and/or adventure programming (Portfolio of experience available, if requested) Knowledge of curriculum development Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Good program management skills

Desired Experience
Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 2 Practitioner certification is highly desired CPR/AED and First Aid Certificate, current or Wilderness First Aid Certification Experience presenting in workshop setting Understanding of military ranks and protocol

Nominal work week is 8 hours per day on weekdays Potential for extended hours and weekend work as required for mission support Potential for very occasional travel (< 5%)

This position requires the ability to successfully complete a background check, drug screening (noting that marijuana is Federally illegal), and a Department of Defense investigation to support base credentialing)
