Provides high level patient care services a majority of the time which
includes, but is not limited to, medication history collection, dispensary
operations, and/or sterile compounding services. Acts as a system resource for
physicians, nurses, pharmacists and support staff inquiring about the
feasibility and possibilities associated with prescribing and dispensing
complex and compounded products.

Performs services and functions within assigned area(s) where complex
pharmaceutical processes require the utilization of advanced skills and
knowledge beyond those obtained as a Pharmacy Tech. Works in atypical
environments such as sterile compounding, remote dispensaries, or medication
history.

Under the supervision of the pharmacist, performs a variety of the following
based on the primary environment; compounds prescription medication requiring
the calculation of appropriate concentrations and amount of ingredients and
prepares appropriate medication by selecting product, counting or
reconstituting, labeling and packaging of product in remote dispensaries.

Operates appropriate equipment and utilizes technology to build compounding
products in prescription processing software, maintains and creates compounding
logs and records, processing and recording initial demographic, and compiles
accurate and complete medication lists under the guidance of licensed
pharmacist or provider.

Offers quality or process improvement ideas and techniques based on specialized
skills to provide the best and accurate care for patients, to providers, and in
support of the pharmacist and clinical staff. Provides input on enhancements,
workflow changes, operational advancement opportunities and system wide
standardization programs.

Reviews and adheres to Aurora s policies/processes and local, state and
federal regulations for complete documentation of receipt, preparation,
dispensing, return and destruction of controlled substances. Keeps abreast of
new regulations and impact to the organization and/or caregiver training and
education.

Maintains inventory control including the ordering of ingredients, products and
supplies at the appropriate level. Communicates with providers and patients
regarding ordering and receiving of products. May oversee non-pharmaceutical
product merchandising and front of store inventory for a pharmacy dispensing
site, including ordering, merchandising, and pricing of non-pharmaceutical
products.

Acts as a system resource for physicians, nurses, pharmacists and support staff
inquiring about the feasibility and possibilities associated with prescribing,
pricing and dispensing medication and/or compounded products.

With department leadership, develops, coordinates and modifies the staff
training, orientation and technical guidance program to ensure consistency and
best practices.

May perform data entry and/or third party billing functions including: data
entry of customer demographics and third-party information, obtaining prior
authorizations from appropriate third-party carriers, maintaining files of
prior authorization, investigating and correcting errors in submission to third
parties and handling private insurance, workers compensation, and third-party
insurance coverage and prescription-related issues.

May perform bank deposits, day end reports, post office deliveries,
prescription billing for physicians, general housekeeping and display set up,
ensuring efficient operations and appropriate overall appearance of the
pharmacy dispensing site.

Qualifications

License & Certifications

Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician
Certification Board.

Education

High School Graduate.

Experience

Typically requires 3 years of experience in providing services as a Pharmacy
Technician having exposure with sterile product compounding and/or automated
dispensing.

Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of complex pharmaceutical equipment and
techniques.Demonstrates practical knowledge of handling of controlled
substances with proper accountability, record keeping requirements, and
operation of C-11 Safe.Knowledge of medications and their properties.Excellent
communication and organizational skills.Possess strong mathematical
skills.Exceptional customer service, problem resolution and process development
skills.Must have high attention to detail and demonstrates ability to work
independently, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative. Proficient

Computer Skills Including Experience With Prescription Processing Software (PDX

or similar software), Microsoft office applications, electronic health
information records, and electronic mail. Previous experience in billing third-
party insurance.
