Kaktovik Logistics Support Specialist

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Perform all assigned laborer duties in a safe and orderly fashion and proficient manner. Ability to operate Fire Arms, snow machines and ATV’s safely. Perform material staging and handling. Experience breaking trail on the ice. Use of hand shovel and pick work. Snow removal and shop clean up. Must be able to work in the field. Must maintain consistent and punctual attendance. UIC Science will train as-needed to safely operate hand tools, small equipment such as chain saws, power drills, generators, pumps, and an ice auger to drill holes in the ice, which may include other small equipment. Maintain open and responsive communications with Field Logistics Supervisor, Science Operations Manager and other staff. Report any incidents, situation or activity that may affect the company’s ability to operate safely and ethically to the Science Operations Manager and other staff. Knowledge of safe working practices is required. Extensive knowledge of Kaktovik area, on the ice and local land area Upon direction from the Science Operations Manager or the Field Logistics Supervisor, candidate will assist researchers in locating equipment, tools, supplies, vehicles, and radios and wildlife activities including bear guard patrol. Manual material handling involving heavy lifting, which includes trash hauling. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Skills/Experience Required
Perform all assigned laborer duties in a safe and orderly fashion and proficient manner Must be reliable Must have some customer service experience Must be able to operate handheld GPS, sat phone, and Delorme devices and have experience in their Fire Arms/ Weapons training, must have the ability to use appropriate weapons and ammunition to provide adequate safety Be able to prevent Bears from associating with humans and food, facilities, and gear Successfully completed ADF&G and or USFWS Bear encounter/hazing training for designated Bear Develop and or provide Bear avoidance & human encounter/interaction plan Provide and monitor hazing prevention programs onsite Be able to protect workers and wildlife Must possess current Alaska Driver’s License
Physical Demands

Requirements
Operation of motor vehicles required. Ability to drive and ride ATV/UTV. Operation of heavy equipment, aircraft, marine craft, etc… Rapid mental and/or muscle coordination. Walking. Standing. Training turning upper body, arms, and legs. Good near vision. Good hearing. Wear ANSI approved safety footwear. Wear safety goggles. Wear a hard hat. Lifting/Carrying frequently required up to 50lbs with occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75lbs Pushing/Pulling frequently required up to 50lbs with occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75lb
Work Environment
Ability to withstand extreme cold temperatures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may be loud at times. Must be able to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces. Must be able to walk up and down stairs frequently. Working alone. Remote work sites (no dispensary or hospital). Long and/or irregular hours. Day shift and/or night shift rotations. Ability to carry a 12 gauge shotgun with live ammunition safely.
