Job Description
Supports the V.P of R&D in all IP related job duties to ensure that all aspects of Patent and Trademark docketing, filing, and communications are timely completed, and assist in ensuring that all company goals related to IP are realized. The successful candidate will be a key member of a fast-paced and collaborative start-up agricultural sciences company research facility.
Primary Responsibilities Aid in or carry out creation and revision of patents and trademarks. Aid in or carry out communications related to filing patents and trademarks. Create, maintain and review internal docketing database to follow all active IP applications/issued IP. Coordinate with Scientist and other inventors to complete invention disclosures and complete IP filings (plant patents, utility patents). Coordinate with Sales/Product Development for naming and Trademark filing on new varieties. Perform Status checks on all IP in either PTO public or private status system (PAIRS). IP research related to FTO analysis, patentability analysis, trademark research with respect to rapidly changing laws surrounding IP on hemp/cannabis. Aid outside counsels with information disclosure statements and sequence filings. Prepare Docket reports, IP tables and charts as requested. Assist in QA/QC of invention disclosures, and any IP applications. Assist in reviewing promotional, advertising and marketing materials to provide intellectual property clearance and to evaluate applicable advertising and regulatory issues. Desired Qualifications Minimum 2-3 years relevant IP experience. BS/BA degree is required. Paralegal certificate a plus. Degree in Biological, Chemical or Horticultural science a plus. Must have knowledge of USPTO rules and procedures. Ability to utilize USPTO and other related government agency electronic resources effectively. Willingness and flexibility to work closely with others as needed. Provide support and planning that will ensure a high quality and accurate work product. Strong computer skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint is needed. Working knowledge of patent/trademark docketing software and IP research software (e.g., PatSnap). Performs other duties as assigned.
