CANNABIS OIL / START WITH THE END USE

One name. Very different preparations.

For home cooking, cannabis oil usually means an edible oil infused with cannabis. A concentrated extract is a different preparation, with different equipment, testing and risks.

Decide what the finished oil is for before choosing a method. Food, inhalation products and skin preparations are not interchangeable.

THE FIRST DECISION

Which kind of oil do you mean?

A

An edible infusion

Cannabis compounds carried in a culinary fat, such as coconut or another cooking oil.

For food preparation

Follow the cooking-oil method →
B

A concentrated extract

A resin-rich product separated from plant material. Its strength and residual contaminants cannot be established by appearance.

Requires a different process

C

A skin preparation

A product formulated for external use. Read its label for the intended route, ingredients and precautions.

Follow its stated use

Do not assume a topical product is edible or suitable for inhalation.

THE KITCHEN ROUTE

Make an infusion, with a measured plan.

  1. 01

    Choose a culinary oil

Use an oil intended for food and a lawful cannabis ingredient. Do not substitute rubbing alcohol or an inhalation product.

  2. 02

    Prepare and measure

Use the quantities and preparation steps in the cooking-oil guide. If the method calls for it, understand decarboxylation before heating the batch.

  3. 03

    Use controlled, gentle heat

Follow the culinary method. Scorching, a darker color or longer cooking cannot verify cannabinoid content or make an untested oil safe.

  4. 04

    Strain, label and store

Use clean food containers, mark the oil clearly as cannabis-infused and follow food-storage guidance for the preparation. Keep it secured away from children and pets.

For a coconut-oil preparation, use the slow-cooker coconut-oil guide.

APPEARANCE IS NOT A TEST

Color cannot tell you the dose.

Two oils can look similar while containing very different amounts of THC. Homemade infusion calculations are estimates; they cannot replace testing or confirm an even dose in every portion.

Use the THC potency calculator with the best information available for the ingredient and finished batch. Do not treat an unknown input as a measured result.

The appearance of an oil does not verify its THC content or residual contaminants.

QUICK ANSWERS

Before using the finished oil

Can cooking oil be used in a vape?
Do not use a culinary infusion as an inhalation product. Follow the intended use of the specific product; an edible recipe does not establish inhalation safety.
Does oil have only mild side effects?
No. THC can cause impairment and unpleasant or serious adverse effects. Ingested cannabis can take up to four hours to reach its full effects; taking more early increases the risk of overconsumption. Do not drive after using it.
Can I judge whether a solvent extract is ready by smell or bubbles?
No. Those observations cannot verify residual-solvent levels or establish product safety.
