Hash and kief guides
Explore hash and kief guides covering trichomes, dry-ice kief, finger hash, collection methods and the basics behind cannabis concentrates.

RESIN / METHODS / REFERENCES
Follow the resin, not the hype.
Kief is separated trichome material; hash is a broader family of resin-rich products. The method changes the form and handling of the material, but appearance alone cannot establish THC content, purity or safety. Choose a guide by what you want to understand.
Loose trichome-rich powder collected by dry separation.
Resin heads separated through agitation and filtration.
Resin gathered from plant surfaces and worked together.
THE METHODS
Five paths through hash and concentrates
Start with traditional mechanical separations, then compare resin extracts and the textures sold as shatter and wax.
DON'T CONFUSE THESE OILS
Hash oil is not the same thing as cooking oil
Concentrated cannabis extracts and culinary oil infusions serve different purposes. A cooking oil is a food ingredient in which cannabinoids may be dissolved in edible fat. Shatter and wax are concentrate forms; they are not substitutes for ordinary cooking oil.
For a broad introduction to trichomes and mechanical hash methods, see the hash and kief overview. For food preparation, use the separate cannabis cooking oil guide.
