How To Calculate Cannabis Coconut Oil Potency

Use the following formula:

Flower Weight (grams) × 1000 × THC Percentage = Total Available THC

After infusion losses, multiply by approximately 0.80 to estimate usable THC in the finished oil.

Divide the resulting THC by the number of tablespoons in your batch to estimate potency per tablespoon.

Example Potency Calculation

  • 14 grams cannabis flower
  • 20% THC
  • 1 cup coconut oil

14,000mg × 20% THC = 2,800mg THC

Estimated 80% extraction efficiency:

2,800mg × 0.80 = 2,240mg THC

1 cup contains approximately 16 tablespoons.

2,240mg ÷ 16 = approximately 140mg THC per tablespoon.

Homemade cannabis coconut oil is often much stronger than expected. If you are new to edibles, start with a very small amount and wait at least 2 hours before increasing your dose.

Common Potency Calculator Mistakes

  • Using estimated THC percentages that are too high.
  • Forgetting to account for extraction losses.
  • Ignoring decarboxylation efficiency.
  • Calculating dosage before measuring final oil volume.
  • Assuming every batch has identical potency.
