North Shore Three-Way Roast Beef Sandwich

Ingredients & directions

Three-way roast beef on toasted onion rolls

Ingredients

Sandwich

Three-way sauces

Ask the deli to shave the beef thin enough to fold. Have the cheese and sauces ready before the rolls hit the skillet.

Directions

  1. Butter-toasted onion roll halves with white American cheese on a bottom bun

    Toast the rolls

Spread the plain butter thinly on the cut sides. Griddle them cut-side down over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes until golden. Lay a slice of cheese on each warm bottom bun.

  2. Individual cups of mayonnaise with edible oil being added to one separate portion

    Portion the mayo

Put 1 tbsp mayo per sandwich into separate cups if one will be infused. Stir the optional measured edible oil into only the mayo for the identified adult sandwich. Spread each portion on its own top bun.

  3. Thin folds of cooked roast beef piled onto the cheese-topped bottom roll

    Pile the shaved beef

Divide the ready-to-eat beef into 4 portions. Gather each into loose folds and pile onto the cheese. Give each stack about 1 tbsp tangy barbecue sauce.

  4. The onion roll top being set onto the finished three-way sandwich

    Close and serve

Cap each sandwich with its top bun. Serve immediately so the bread keeps its griddled edge. Use a distinct plate or wrapper for the infused serving and keep the label available.

Storage Assemble just before eating. Refrigerate the beef and sauces promptly and follow their package storage dates. Keep any infused mayo separately labeled and secured.

Kitchen notes

Build the sandwich like a North Shore shop

What does three-way mean on the North Shore?

It names the three toppings on the beef: mayonnaise, white American cheese and tangy barbecue sauce. An onion roll is a common choice for the larger sandwich.

Can I use leftover home-roasted beef?

Yes, if it has been stored safely. Slice across the grain as thinly as you can. Deli-shaved beef is the easier route to the soft folds pictured here.

What sauce can stand in for James River?

Use a smooth, tangy barbecue sauce. A small splash of cider vinegar can sharpen a thick, sweet sauce before you spoon it onto the beef.

Use the product label

Estimate THC in a portion

Measure the edible oil mixed into the mayo for that sandwich only. Use the same unit for the label amount and the amount used.

Enter the label values and the amount you used.

The result estimates the THC added to that portion from the product label. Keep infused portions labeled and secured.

THC in one portion = label THC (mg) × amount used ÷ label amount.

If the label lists 5 mg THC per 1 mL, 0.4 mL contributes an estimated 2 mg THC to one sandwich. Skip it if your measuring tool cannot read that amount.

Use a labeled edible product for a consenting legal-age adult where permitted. If you are new to edibles, Health Canada suggests choosing 2.5 mg THC or less. Full effects can take up to 4 hours. Keep infused servings separate, labeled and locked away from children and pets.
