Post Problem Germinating Seed
on: November 13, 2011, 10:21

Hey there. It's been a while since I have been here, but I have been extremely busy and just now am able to start growing for my personal pleasure. The question I have for you is that I have tried to germinate my seed before, but nothing happened to the seed after 24-48 hours. I'm not quite sure what I did. I wet a paper towel and squeezed it mostly dry so it was just damp. Then, I put it in a tupperware and put it on top of my boiler (which is the only place in my house that is close to being room temperature). lol Could you help me develop a full proof way of germinating my seed please. Thank you! Take care.

i use that same method with near perfect results, which leads me to believe the seeds you are using are no good. You can pinch the seed in between your thumb and index finger, if the seed pops then its no good. if the seed is white its no good. also let them go longer than 48hrs as some seeds may take up to 5 days to pop.

Ok, I did not know that. Someone told me that it takes 48 hours for them to germinate. When I get home from work today, I'm going to check out my seeds to see if they are any good. Also, when I have them in the Tupperware and germinating, do I need to change the water because it gets pretty stank in that container. Lol also, where is a good place that I can store my seeds that will keep them useable so I can do 1 plant at a time until I get the hang of it?

just keep the towel inside the tupperware nice and damp (NOT SOAKED).. shouldnt smell in there, unless its too wet... i store my seeds inside a pill bottle and keep them locked in a safe

Ok, I have some good news. Apparently, I might have made the other papertowel for the first seed too damp and that might be why it didn't germinate because I just took a look at this new seed I stored 5 days ago and it HAS germinated. Thank god and thank you so much for your help. Now, I guess the next step it to put the seed in the rockwool cube and put it in my tent to help it sprout before I move it to the hydro unit. Does that sound about right?
